23 years i have lived.

*Of the i will nots..*

I will not pander to your judgement calls.

I will not live by your moral code.

I will not surrender to those i deem not worthy.

I will not entertain your boring, stifling ideas simply because you attempt to subdue my natural wilder instincts.

I will not compromise. Not for you. Not even for myself

*Of the i wills..*

I will do exactly as i please, whenever i please and whomever i please.

I will listen to only one person - myself.

I will cut you out of my life anytime i wish to - just so you know.

I will hold the strings like always. - To hell with you if you cannot deal with that.

I will fly free. For now and forever.

There, the emo birthday resolution list has been put up. Not much of a drastic change from how i've always been like though. Nevertheless, since being this way works for me.. so, sense in changing things eh?

Promises to expound on the birthday weekend in the next post. With plenty of pictures too! I'm in abit of a reflective mood at the moment, so the motivation to write isn't quite there.

I've been listening to this one song on repeat for quite awhile. Check out the lyrics and the song itself, if u can find it on youtube or cooltoad. The genre is goth metal and the singing style veers towards opera-ish.. the overall effect is rather addictive

Nightwish - Sleeping Sun

The sun is sleeping quietly
Once upon a century
Wistful oceans calm and red
Ardent caresses laid to rest

For my dreams I hold my life
For wishes I behold my night
The truth at the end of time
Losing faith makes a crime

I wish for this night-time
to last for a lifetime
The darkness around me
Shores of a solar sea
Oh how I wish to go down with the sun
Sleeping
Weeping
With you

Sorrow has a human heart
From my god it will depart
I'd sail before a thousand moons
Never finding where to go

Two hundred twenty-two days of light
Will be desired by a night
A moment for the poet's play
Until there's nothing left to say

I wish for this night-time...
I wish for this night-time...

OF punctured tires, skinned knees and jagerbombs

It's been a week and more since i've updated! I'm as slow as molasses, i know! Apologies to my legions of readers (a lass can hope!) for the delay. I am back! Not quite unlike a lysogen :D Fellow science dorks, clap your hands and say aye!

I shall start of my blog with the more pleasant of events.. Clubbing on the eve of Vesak day! It started with N and I heading down to Brahaus at United Square for a couple of beers. They have an interestingly varied selection of beers over there and the ambience is perfect for a chill-out session. Brewerkz, i find, can get grating on the nerves, no thanks to loud, drunk middle-aged ang mohs and the equally loud but not-quite middle-aged youth clientele. I had the Floris Chocolate - a chocolate flavoured beer. I quite thought it tasted like cough syrup but N swore that she could taste a hint of chocolate. I'd reserve judgement for now, i reckon. Viggalo joined us an hour later and after a round of beers - Kilkenny for me! - we were coaxed into joining his group of friends at Attica for clubbing. Not much coaxing needed at my end since i was pretty much raring to have fun but i might have had a hand in persuading N. :D

We headed down to Attica. Entry was free because Viggalo's friend A, is friends with the someone in the management team. It's brilliant having contacts yeah? Soon, other friends K and Nesh joined us together with a couple of other girls. I won't bother going into the details of the night. Suffice to say, there was alot of alcohol, alot of dancing and i'd be speaking on behalf of everyone when i say we had heaps of fun! Oh! And i had a jagerbomb! Awesome stuff really. I was bouncing of the walls all night long! To the uninitiated - jagerbomb consists of a shot of jagermeister ( which is naturally in a shot glass) dunked into a glass of redbull and the whole concotion has to be downed in one gulp.

Some pics from the night..

Check out the 2 litre Asahi TANK. Cost-35 bucks. It's in times like these when i fondly recall that a litre of beer hoi amounts to only 4 SGD.
There - now that's over and done with... let's move on shall we?
So on the Saturday before Vesak day, Jos and I had the idea to meet at ECP for a spot of cycling and dinner after that. Her little bro-of-sorts G ended up tagging along as well as His Royal Highness - let's refer to him as HRH from now on yeah? Only 'cos i'm so buggering lazy. We really should have called it quits when Jos snapped her havianas a few minutes into cycling. We should have seen it as the omen it was. But nooo...we had to soldier on! We braved the crowded lanes, parked our bikes while Jos got herself a new pair of slippers and resumed our cycling trip.

To be quite fair, it was pretty non-eventful for a while after that. G and I were ahead of Jos and HRM and i'd dare say there was abit of friendly competition there. Keep in mind that G's a 13-year old boy.

But i digress. We eventually reached changi point and cycled on furthur till we were opposite T1. Took some lovely shots and all. It was during our return trip that everything went downhill. There was a mini accident where Jos crashed into G and the next thing we knew, the air from the front tire of the bike Jos was riding was slowly escaping out. HRM thought it was hilarious - that sod- and couldn't reel in those giggles. Well, looking back it was funny and i can laugh about it now..but it sure wasn't then. I had this sinking feeling that Jos and I were going to be stuck at ECP for a long bloody while. And there was no way in hell i was going to leave her alone there to fend for herself. The buggers at the bicycle rental shop were unhelpful. Seriously unhelpful. How the fuck were we supposed to bring the bikes back? Changi point is a good distance from ECP. But nooo.. in typical Singaporean fashion, the bastard bloke refused to entertain our call and slammed the receiver down on me. I was fuming. How prick-ish!

So, HRM took G back to ECP first on their (functional) bikes, whilst Jos and I padded back slowly.. Well, she padded..i was trying some weird slow-swerving-shit on my bike. It constantly amazes me how i'm unable to cycle at a moderately decent speed. It's either fast or BRAKE!!! So, we went on in a not quite merry fashion. Blokes of different ethnicities rode past us and flashed us looks of varying emotions. If they weren't looking at us with sympathy, they were smirking at us - probably thinking we were losers, those bastards!

Help finally came - in the form of a shirtless skater - Roy accompanied by his merry fellowship of cyclists. There was even a token female. To Jos and I, God hath just pulled up in his chariot and offered us each a boon. Jokes aside, i was totally taken aback when the guys (and token female) offered to help us. Firstly, Singaporeans are not known for being good samaritans. We need signs to tell us to give up our seats to pregnant women. And even then, a good portion of the population don't. So I was alternately impressed and amazed at this group of guys who came from nowhere, hauled up the useless bike, skated all the frikking way to the Yacht Club and waited with us to get a cab. Speechless. Amazed. Impressed. What do you know? There's hope left for Singaporeans afterall.

Big thanks to Roy and Co. It's people like you guys that give Singaporeans a good name. More of y'all...and what do you know.. We may just lose our reputation of being an unfeeling nation. Good on you guys!
Some pictures from the cycling stint.. even in face of minor tragedies, we never failed to stop for a few moments and camwhore. Being self-centered is an art we have mastered in its entirety!

T1
Random shot of G
Not quite random shot of me!
HRM thought it'd be funny to take a vid of me acting like a complete berk and put it up on flickr.. thus my revenge! A zoom-in shot!

.... Not much of a revenge though is it? I must really work on my vengeance. It's appalling how nice i am even when i'm trying to be all vengeful and snarky.

I've come to a conclusion from viewing my own pics. I think i prefer me without makeup. I tend to deviate into the realm of slutty with makeup on methinks. *ponders*
In other news, The Wittle Bestiekins (TWB for all future references :P) is back from Chennai! She tailored a punjabi suit for me there and i've got to say...it's so bloody pretty! I shall put up a pic of it soon..it's too pretty not to flaunt!
Anyway, that's all i have for now. My fingers ache from all the typing so i'm off for awhile.
I'll be back...when i'm back?

Of stiffies (mind outta gutter please!) and achy muscles..

So, i finally received my parcel. I may not have to engage in manslaughter-y-like crimes for the moment. Although considering the number of white hairs i've received in the span of WAITING...hmm. *snerk*

In other news, i'm sunburnt and suffering for stiff-shoulderitis. I'm not complaining though, considering that i haven't had this much fun since my trip to vietnam-cambodia.

Van, Sunny and I headed down to Kota Tinggi yesterday and it'd be a bit of an understatement to say that we had a rollin' good time! The waterfalls were brilliant, the food excellent and the company was beyond wonderful. We trekked, swam, slid, ate and in true suba-style, lost a key and had to pay a fine of 30RM. My only consolation is that after conversion, i only lost about 12 SGD or so.

Some pictures from the trip..

In the cab, heading towards Mt.Guntahak. There's Sunny and the very adorable Van

There's something awe-inspiring about nature's creations. I always get this sense of wonderment when faced with one of her marvels. This was no exception.

A group of friends at the rocks leading towards to the lesser of the waterfalls.

Taking off our shoes to cross over to the other end of the bank. This was taken during our trek and boy did the water provide us with some respite! It was hot like hell in the forested regions of the mountain. And since there was no proper trail, we were quite literally doing a climb worthy of Spiderman. My quads still groan in protest everytime i attempt to get up from my seat.

In the cab, on the way back to JB. Pic's self-explanatory really. Exhaustion's written all over my face. Evidently, i'm also channeling Sadako.

Speaking of vacations, Van and I have decided on a trip to Hanoi and Saigon sometime end august. I'm highly excited about that since i've been wanting to visit Hanoi for the longest time. Might also want to to check out train services to Beijing, cost and all that. Yay for the return of coffee-ly goodness!

I'm also highly excited for the upcoming holiday on Vesak day. I've got a nice birthday surprise planned for Jos :D

Promise to update soon but for now i gotta run! Cheers to all my lovelies!

Of movies and singpost

A case of theateritis struck me right about the time i got done with my final paper for 3325. From Tashan to Iron man..and most recently, Harold and Kumar Part deux! Each film was a wild ride in its own way.. though by far, Iron Man got to me the most. Robert Downey makes for an unlikely superhero but damn, he does one helluva kickass job! I've got a thing for snark...and Downey's got that in spades. In spades i tell ya!

Tashan was interesting. The cinematography was disappointing to say the least, considering that it was helmed by Yash Raj productions. There was no subtle transition between scenes which gave me the distinct impression that the editing was a very much a 'straight from the clipboard and piece 'em together' deal. However, the excellent cast and the witty repartee more than made up for it. Saif was totally in his element (as usual!) and his final scene with Anil Kapoor almost had me peeing my pants! Anil was most definitely the saving grace of the film and considering the fact that i don't even like Anil, that's high praise indeed. Kareena was forgettable in most scenes, save a few. But she did add a nice filmy touch to the movie, what with her prancing about in wee teeny shorts and lime-green bikinis. The thought that she might have looked a little tranny-ish did cross my head but that could be due to the fact that I could never pull off a lime-green bikini. But then again...maybe not. Maybe she really did look tranny. Ish. Never mind that. Akshay was good as usual..but he COULD have been utilised more productively. We are talking about a guy here with 6 consecutive hits in a row. You'd think the writer-producer-director ensemble could have given his role abit more scope. But nooo..
Nevertheless..the movie as a whole was worth it. But it could have been better. That's all i'm saying. Yeah.

Next! Iron Man. By far one of the BEST superhero flicks i've ever seen. Seriously. It's right up there ranking just below X-men - the first part. I'd say it has even got one up on Batman Begins simply because there's a perfect equilibrium of humor and seriousness. Batman begins was an excellent flick really but the feel of the movie was more avenger of the mortal , bleeding kind rather than superhero. Gritty and coarse. Which was definitely not what Iron Man was all about. And yet...yet, Downey puts a lovely spin to his character. He's incredibly snarky which is really very sexy. He comes across as being bloody brilliant as well as being bloody secure in the knowledge that he's bloody brilliant. Which is also very bloody sexy. Alright, i'd quit with the bloody right about now. Jeff Bridges was also perfect as the bidding-his-time, scheming nemesis. It was rather refreshing to see him in such a role because to the best of my memory.. i've never seen him casted as a villian before. Also, for the first time ever, i actually liked Gwenyth in a movie. Usually, i cannot abide by her damsel-in-distress performances and her perpetually perplexed face. Imagine a blond Keanu Reeves with boobs. Yeap..that'd be Gwenyth. How she ever won awards for her performance, i will never know. Surprisingly though, she wasn't half bad in Iron Man. Probably because she didn't have much screen time.
If i had to quibble about Iron Man though.. it'd be about the CGI. Really guys, CGI is awesome and all but only if it blends effectively into the natural setting. The audience is not dumb. We can tell the difference between crappy effects and damn good ones a la Jurassic Park.

That brings me to my final movie - Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. Yeah. This movie was hilarious. From start to end, Kal Penn and John Cho had me in stitches. I really don't know what to wax lyrical about. The Al-Qaeda - North Korea tie-up? The stereotypical dumb american? The KKK keggers? The highlighting of sodomy in prisons? The rage against the minorities? The writers have basically taken every (almost!) failing in US of the A and turned them into mockeries of themselves. You've got a gang of huge black guys intent on helping rather than bashing. You've got a Caucasian unable to recognise an Oriental just by looking at his features. You've got an Indian being mistaken for an Arab. Sensitive issues like that turned into comedy routines and has you laughing at the absurdity of it all (and also quite wondering why on earth people subscribe to such ridiculous stereotypes). It's a movie that doesn't take itself seriously and doesn't expect you to take yourself seriously as well. For that 1 and a half hr at least. But of course, being a Hollywood comedy, it has got to have its fair share of toilet humor as well, which it does. I don't reckon i'd hold a grudge though. There was intelligent comedy and sometimes you've got to take the good with the bad. John Cho rocked by the way. After seeing successes like Sandra Oh, it really surprises me why Hollywood doesn't use more Asian, East Asian etc etc. actors in their flicks. America was afterall founded on the amalgamation of many different races and religions. If we can have Bullseye taking the mick instead of the piss.. then surely we can have oh-i-dont-know..a korean universal soldier? Well.. i'm just saying. Maybe it's time the industry opened itself up more to Asians.

I want to check out the Other Boleyn Girl before it gets out of the theatre. Hope i'm not too late in catching it. *crosses fingers*

In other news, Singpost has gotten me ranting and raving. How fucking long does it take to deliver a parcel? It's been one week already and i still have yet to receive my parcel! And i've paid a pretty little penny for my goods. If it's not here soon, i swear i'm going to burst a nerve. And take sadistic pleasure in busting some too. *scowls*

Like an infectious disease, i never seem to go away

It's been years since i've kept a blog. The general trend of it being.. I keep one, maintain it for abit, get sick of the many critics and detractors within the netizen population, hurl some expletives in the general direction of my laptop and click the 'delete blog' button. And just like that, months of writings disappear from the electronic world.

Aye, patience has never been one of my virtues. The intrinsic ability of some to weather the harshest of critics and most damnable of idotic netizens is yet another ability i do not possess.

I'm pretty low on virtues like that. Don't have much use of them. Nevertheless, i shall attempt for the third time (they say the third time's the charm eh?) to mantain a functional, though perhaps not-quite coherent, blog and...and we'll see how it goes.

The blog heading is a shoutout to the now defunct Vendetta Red. The pic you see above is one of their album covers. Anyone who's everyone who knows me know that i'm a huge fan of rock. I'll take it in whichever form you give it - hell even classic. Vendetta Red was simply awesome. Pity that good bands never last. Anyway, i've taken some creative license with one of their song titles (or maybe not quite!) - Lipstick Tourniquette. You'll notice that the last two alphabets are conveniently deleted. Well, it's a necessary evil methinks. Leave it and the header overuns the borders of the skin. Delete it and...well, all's dandy in my tiny little world.
That's it for the first post i guess. I cannot think of anything share-worthy at the moment and i cannot be arsed to think of soul-wrenchingly deep bullshit either.
SO...it's goodbye for now. I'll be back...when i'm back. And no, i'm not quite tossing on over a metaphorical pair of ray bans.
